Why a hollow block and not something else.
Lightweight
Hollow cores cut the mass per square metre, which speeds up laying and reduces the load carried into the foundation.
Reduced construction costs
The face is 390 x 190, so a square metre takes 12.5 blocks against 51.9 stock bricks. A quarter of the units, a quarter of the joints, and the bricklaying that goes with them.
Improved thermal performance
The voids break the conductive path through the wall, so the building holds temperature better than a solid single skin. At a nominal 3.5 MPa it clears the single-storey floor; the lower storey of a double storey calls for 7.0 MPa hollow, so tell us the storey count when you enquire.
Cores take reinforcement
Cores can be reinforced and filled where the design calls for it, which makes the same unit work for boundary walls and retaining structures.
